Bonus translation 6

Try to translate the following news headlines for today into Chinese:

@ DPP legislators silent on indictment
@ David Lee says indictment will not affect US policy
@ Russia refuses to bargain over Iran nuclear facility
@ UK school head tells kids `stop hugging'
@ Presidential Office in crisis: Ma calls on DPP to join recall motion

Note:
1. Watch the special grammar used by "news headline."
2. When translating, try to use "eye-catching" words or phrases, such as slang, classic words (idiom)...etc..

To Meg:

1. 美國未來對台政策
2. 非"核子武器"
3. 英國某學校校長規定--
4. They are not bad translations for these "headlines," yet not "eye-catching" enough though.
5. Go! Go!

To Emily,

1. Please refer to the following passage to correct your translation:

"Russia will not bargain at the UN Security Council over its construction of Iran's first nuclear power station at Bushehr, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said yesterday, Russian news agencies reported.

Lavrov said that European powers were trying to win Russian support for UN sanctions against Iran in exchange for allowing Moscow to continue construction of the Bushehr facility -- a key building block in Iran's controversial nuclear program."

2. Very few people translate a headline in this sequence, which can only be used in the text or "lead."
『別再擁抱啦』英國某校長如此要求

3. I don't think using a question mark is proper here -- 總統府危機?

Dear Susan:

1. I like your translation for the first headline.

2. However, I don't think the following are correct and acceptable translations.

3.Russia refuses to bargain over Iran nuclear facility
蘇聯與伊朗核子武器交易 失敗!

5.Presidential Office in crisis: Ma calls on DPP to join recall motion
總統府危機重重;馬市長邀請綠委們一起來倒扁

Dear Faye:

I don't think the following is a correct translation:

伊拉克核武交易 遭蘇聯拒絕

Nuclear facility means "power plant," and it doesn't necessarily indicate nuclear weapons.

Besides, it is "Iran" not "Iraq."
